Olivia Palermo’s style is to die for.  The reality star/socialite/fashionista has a knack for putting together neck-breaking ensembles.  I love the way she wears conservative, but very stylish outfits, that I think we could get away with wearing at the office. We could definitely learn a thing or two from her to help upgrade our Wall Street wardrobe!  Olivia is definitely a Style Icon for our generation!

New Year’s Resolutions: Are you still keeping on track?

Yesterday, my co-workers and I were talking and couldn’t believe that it was already March.  Boy, how time flies!  We also discussed our New Year’s resolutions and how we aren’t even keeping up with our goals.  Changes in our lives don’t have to only take place on New Year’s day.  So, we decided to write down our resolutions and email them to ourselves and start fresh.  Every Friday, we are going to come together, either in person, on Skype, or online, like Net Meeting, to track our progress and continue to motivate each other.

Everyday is another chance to make positive changes in your life.  It’s never too late to start over, regroup, or pick up where you left off.  I encourage all of you to remain motivated and follow through with your goals.

And, I know that all of us are extremely busy, managing work and life.  But, we owe it to ourselves to continue to self-improve.

Here are a few suggestions that might help you:

  • Get Organized.  Write down your goals. Set up reminders and research helpful tools.
  • Start Small.  We are all busy and Wall Street can definitely be demanding of our time.  So, be realistic about your goals and start small.  You don’t want to overwhelm yourself.
  • Schedule ‘Me’ Time.  Put time on your calendar for yourself.  Our days are filled with meetings and after work outings.  Schedule time on your calendar to dedicate to your goals. Stick to it.
  • Support Groups.  Gather with your with friends.  It’s so much easier to get things done and follow through with a support system.  The buddy system is a great way to stay motivated.
  • Track your progress.  It’s good to look at your progress over time to see the improvement.  This can be measured by inches lost, increased energy, amount of money in your savings account, and even how you feel.

Good luck and don’t hesitate to drop a line.  If you need a buddy to keep you motivated, I’ll be more than happy to help you out!

Dress Spotlight: Donna Karen Layered Jersey Dress

I came across this HOT Donna Karen jersey dress while shopping on Net-A-Porter today.  The black is inline with the conservativeness of Wall Street.  But, the layered red and white trim makes it a little more fashionable.  This body-con dress isn’t too tight and will ‘perfectly skim your silhouette.’ If you are willing to splurge, even after the outcry over bonuses this past week, it’s well worth the $1,295.00.

Christian Louboutin vs. YSL: The Battle over the Red Sole

This past Tuesday, representatives from both Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent were at it again for a second round in a battle over the infamous red hue.

Let’s face it, when you see a woman walking with a pair of ‘red-bottoms,’ your first inclination is that she is wearing a pair of hot and very expensive Christian Louboutin shoes.  It’s hard to put your finger on it, but the ‘red bottoms’ speak volumes of a woman’s class and confidence.  And, it seems only justifiably so that Christian Louboutin would want to protect their iconic brand image.

For many years, designers have been battling knockoffs and companies that blatantly steal their designs.  And this case highlights a critical issue: fashion designers really don’t have protection over their creations.  Will designers ever have intellectual property rights?  The judgment made in this case will set a precedent for future cases to come.  Stay tuned….

F.A.B. on Wall Street: Polyvore raises $14 Million from DAG Ventures, Goldman Sachs and Others

You guys have to know about Polyvore!  If not, we are going to have to work on increasing your F.A.B Index (TM).  Well, Polyvore is an online community of fashionistas.  Users can pull pieces that they like from various online retailers to create personalized collages.  Polyvore lets designers know how many and which of their pieces are used in sets, and how the users style them with other pieces.

I love going to Polyvore to look at how other users pair things together and to help style an outfit for a special weekend outing.  It’s a really useful program!  Below is a set created using Calvin Klein pieces.

This recent round of funding, of $14 Million, was led by DAG Ventures, with participation from Goldman Sachs, Vivi Nevo, Benchmark Capital, and Matrix Partners.  The funding will be used to develop their product offering and hire additional engineering talent.

They also just announced “Polyvore Live,” which will showcase the collections of four up-and-coming designers.  Stay tuned for more innovation from this fabulous company!

WSF Celeb Style: Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is at again!  She wore this wonderful L’Wren Scott dress while hosting the Live with Kelly show in NYC.  I absolutely love this dress.  It’s conservatively sexy!  You are sure to turn a few heads in this dress at the office.  Red is such a powerful color.  Keep the black in the closet for a change.

WSF Celeb Style: Kim Kardashian

Forget all of the controversy with the Kardashian clan these days.  One thing that you can’t deny is that Kim Kardashian does have impeccable style!  This past week she was photographed wearing a few conservative looks that any Wall Street Fashionista would love.

Essie’s Nail Polish ‘Occupies Wall Street’

I absolutely love Essie’s nail polish.  There are a variety of colors and the polish lasts for days, especially with a good top coat.  Just in time for Spring, Essie brings us the Navigate Her collection.

From the Press Release:

“With this collection, Essie is paying tribute to the beautiful, ambitious woman of action. Not content to play it safe and hedge her bets during the wintry economic climate.  In both fashion and finance, she’s ready, willing and able to strike out and try something fresh and new.

Never one to rest on her formidable charms alone, this self-made woman knows what she wants and exactly how to get it. She’s in the driver’s seat navigating her way through life with daring, wit and fashion aplomb.

“Fortune favors the bold,” says essie brand founder and global creative director Essie Weingarten. “I am so inspired by women who dream big, go with their instincts and always manage to put their best self forward.”

This supremely feminine collection creates the perfect spring wardrobe for every woman on a mission. With skin-flattering brights and power pastels to suit every occasion, she’s always at the top of her game with essie color. For those in the vanguard, blazing a trail of glory to new heights, there’s olé caliente. For a more gentle touch and soft-sell approach, a crewed interest is sure to post serious profits. Whatever your strategy, choose one of these six ingenious colors that means business.

From left to right the colors are: Navigate Her, A Crewed Interest, To Buy or Not to Buy, Tour de Finance, Olé Caliente, Orange It’s Obvious!

I want to wear every single one of them just because of the meaning behind each and every drop of color.  I can identify with this Essie Collection!  Ladies, you shouldn’t be afraid to wear hot pink on the trading floor!

I’ll post pics as soon as I get my hands on these hues.

F.A.B. on Wall Street: Fab.com Acquires FashionStake

Our favorite company, Fab.com is at it again.  Previously, we reported that Fab.com received $40 Million in additional funding.  And, they are already putting the funds to good use.  Fab.com has acquired FashionStake.  FashionStake is an e-commerce retailer for independent fashion designers.  Their growing portfolio of designers fits right in with Fab.com’s business model.  They say Fab.com is to Groupon what Facebook is to Myspace.  So, look out GroupOn!

Can’t wait to see all the fab new pieces and any workwear items on Fab.com.

A Working Woman’s Staple: Black Blazer

Every woman should have a black blazer in her closet.  And, unless you are going on an interview, I think you should wear one that has more character.  I get so bored with the boxy, big shoulder pad blazers.  I have so many different black ones, but they are cut differently and more feminine.  It’s important to have one basic one, but change it up a bit with the others.  The one pictured above is by Vionnet.

I also am thinking about getting the Unconditional Black Blazer below.  It’s a little pricey.  But, I’m sure it will look FABulous on =).  I would wear it to work with a non-black Sheath Dress underneath.  Take conservative risks with your workwear!
